Eid Cleaning Checklist: Getting a Dhaka Home Guest-Ready

Eid cleaning in Dhaka fails for one reason: everything gets attempted in the last three days, alongside cooking and shopping. A two-week plan splits the work into what can be done early, what must be done late, and what is worth handing to someone else.

Two weeks before

• Book professional work now. Deep cleaning, sofa and carpet cleaning and water tank cleaning genuinely sell out in the fortnight before Eid. This is the single most useful thing you can do early.
• Declutter room by room — one room per evening rather than the whole flat at once.
• Wash curtains, cushion covers and bed linen while there is drying time.
• Sort the wardrobe and put aside anything for donation.
• Check the guest bathroom for anything that needs a plumber, not a cleaner.

One week before

• Kitchen deep clean: chimney filters, hob, cabinet fronts, tiles. Do this before the cooking begins, not after.
• Bathroom descaling — taps, glass, grout, shower head.
• Fans, light fittings and AC filters cleaned.
• Windows, channels, grills and balcony.
• Sofa and carpet cleaning if you booked it — leave several days for full drying.

Two to three days before

• Floors mopped and polished throughout.
• Guest bathroom fully stocked: soap, tissue, fresh towels, a working exhaust fan.
• Entrance, shoe rack, doormat and stairwell — the first thing guests see.
• Fridge cleared and wiped to make room for Eid food.
• Spare bedding aired and ready.

The day before

• Final dusting of visible surfaces and mirrors.
• Bins emptied everywhere, including bedrooms.
• Kitchen reset after preparation cooking.
• Quick balcony sweep.
• Stop. Anything not done by now will not be noticed by guests either.

What is worth paying someone else to do

Three jobs consistently justify professional help before Eid: kitchen chimney and hob degreasing, bathroom descaling, and sofa or carpet cleaning. All three need equipment and chemicals most households do not have, and all three are highly visible to guests. Everything else on this list is genuinely doable yourself with two weeks of steady effort.

Booking advice

The last ten days before Eid are the busiest of our year. Book at least a week ahead, be flexible on the exact day if you can, and be wary of any company that suddenly has unlimited availability during that window — it usually means an undersized team assembled that morning.

After Eid

Book a shorter reset clean for the week after. Heavy cooking, high guest traffic and constant footfall leave a kitchen and floors in a state that a normal weekly clean will not recover, and dealing with it immediately is far easier than waiting.
